The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) requires two (2) Computer Forensic Services Systems Analysts to assist ALERT’s Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation Unit (NAICE). The Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation (NAICE) Unit falls within the ALERT Combined Forces Specialized Enforcement Units (CFSEU) Branch and investigates offenses related to the exploitation of children over the Internet. This could include but is not limited to: the possession, distribution, importation and manufacturing of any child pornography and any computer related child sex abuse materials; luring and voyeurism involving victims under the age of 18. The Successful candidate(s) must be psychologically prepared to deal with child sexual abuse material including imagery, videos, audio, pictures, and written material on a daily basis. Responsibilities of the position include:
Maintaining forensic standards, procedures and documentation to ensure (1) the integrity and continuity of exhibits held within the Unit, and (2) the integrity of exhibit images upon which subsequent examinations are to be based.
Producing and verifying suitable copies of exhibit electronic storage devices for examination and analysis.
Maintaining the necessary documentation to support the forensic and investigative processes of the Unit.
Determining the most appropriate method of collecting, protecting, analyzing and retaining original evidence. Liaising with the Information Technology specialists of other organizations to ensure the proper collection, examination, interpretation and analysis of electronic evidence stored on that organization’s or on third party networks.
Categorization of child pornographic images, and videos for presentation in court.
Provide expert testimony in court relating to evidence and the results of forensic examinations.
Providing expert opinion consultation and evidence in relation to the examination and analysis of computer systems and electronic evidence obtained under lawful authority.
Attending search scenes by lawful warrant to provide Technological Assistance in the seizure and collection of evidence and provide if required immediate preview of seized devices. These search scenes may be located anywhere in the Province of Alberta and may require overnight travel.
Providing assistance to investigators in the preparation of warrants specific to their investigation.
Effectively communicating with all levels of the Edmonton Police Service, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, other law enforcement agencies, ALERT Corporate, Specialized Crown of the Attorney General, Governmental and Civilian Agencies at the direction of the Staff Sergeant i/c NAICE.
Effectively working in an environment with different agencies, including Edmonton City Police investigators and forensic technicians, Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigators and forensic technicians, civilian employee technicians directly employed by ALERT, and civilian employee technician from the Public Service of Canada. Including supervision from an ALERT employee.
Other related duties as required.
:Graduation from a recognized Institute of Technology or University program in an appropriate specialty such as Computing Science, or a related field.
A minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible experience in the provision of computer forensic or forensic video analysis services and experience in planning, developing and implementing computer forensic systems.
Demonstrated proficiency, knowledge and skills in the areas of computing hardware, software, operating system files systems and data storage.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the areas of computer networks and communication protocols.
Proven ability to operate within a highly interdependent unit with excellent interpersonal skills and judgment.
Demonstrated history of requiring minimum supervision and displaying self-direction and motivation.
Experience soldering and troubleshooting electronics/PCBs.
A+ and N+ certification preferred with specialized training in data recovery and intelligence/analytical software.
Experience programming in Python, C, C++ considered and asset.
A background in civil, criminal, or intelligence work considered an asset.
The physical ability to lift and move equipment.
The following designations would be considered an asset: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), SANS Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) or Systems Security Certified Professional (SSCP), Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
Experience in the use of computer forensic software, such as X ways forensic or Encase.
Experience in the use of categorization software such as Griffeye or LACE.
Valid Alberta Driver’s Licence.
Excellent verbal and written presentation skills.

THE EDMONTON POLICE SERVICE WILL CONDUCT AN ENHANCED SECURITY CLEARANCE ON THOSE CANDIDATES WHO HAVE BEEN SHORT-LISTED.
Hours of Work:
36.9 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
95M, Salary Grade PT2: $72,249 – $113,872 (Annually).
