Job Summary

This role will Design Reactive Power Test templates using the PI Vision program to automatically retrieve test data. The intern will work closely with a mentor-engineer to learn to read drawings and go on plant walkdowns to ensure test data is reliable. The intern will attend a Reactive Power test at a power station, allowing this person to observe test protocols up close, along with the opportunity to tour a working power station. Designing the test templates will reinforce the use of correct mathematical units and require basic math skills. Through this project, the intern will learn physical applications of Ohm’s law and differences between Active Power, Reactive Power and Apparent Power. The project will be collaborative in nature and require the intern to work with Renewable Energy personnel and Fossil and Hydro personnel, in addition to Power Generation Regulatory Compliance personnel.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Role is best filled by someone who is a self-starter, can work independently when needed but will accept direction.   Knowledge of varying methods to produce electricity (eg. Combustion turbines, Coal fired, steam and hydro generation, inverter based resources) is beneficial; strong mathematical skills are important

Education Requirements

Must be a 4-year degree. Preferred Engineering, any discipline, but IT and Computer Science is acceptable

Min of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale

Must be  (rising junior) 2025, (rising sophomore) 2026.
