We are now recruiting for a Forensics Analyst within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics laboratory located at Malvern.

The Forensics Analyst is required to undertake day-to-day operations within the laboratory team. The analysis of drugs in biological samples is conducted by screening, confirmatory or quantification techniques (such as LC/MS/MS), or by a combination of all.

Main accountabilities

Perform analysis and laboratory investigations of biological and other samples for the presence of drugs, poisons and related compounds
Performing several analytical tasks
Extractions
Preparing laboratory reagents
Daily basic equipment checks and maintenance
Equipment validations (i.e. Heaters, Fridges, Freezers, Pipettes)
Making standards and QCs
Produce and monitor analytical standards, quality control material, system suitability tests and quality performance.
Keeping lab up to safe and efficient working standards (i.e. checking expiry dates)
Saving/ Processing, 1st review of data
Saving/ Processing, 2nd review of data
Operation of technical equipment (e.g. mass-spectrometers, etc.) including maintenance following training.
Basic maintenance and troubleshooting the Laboratory equipment (e.g. LCMS, GCMS, HPLC, etc.)
Changing of gas cylinders
Apply quality control procedures
Undertake and complete provided training modules and assessments
Checking instrument SSTs and approving for use. Carry out basic laboratory investigations where required
Support/assist Laboratory Assistant and Laboratory Analyst duties as and when required

The preferred profile

BSc Science degree as a minimum or equivalent experience
Able to follow instructions and work under pressure in a busy environment.
Shows consistency in reporting analytical results accurately
Show an aptitude for prioritising workload
Demonstrate a basic understanding of the principles of extraction techniques e.g. SPE, liquid-liquid extraction and protein precipitation methodologies.
Shows a basic depth of knowledge and understanding of the chromatographic analytical techniques
Work in accordance with the current safety and quality standards
