About this job: 
We’re looking for a dedicated professional with a passion for compliance and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and regulatory adherence. As the Assistant Manager for Regulatory Compliance, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our company adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. You will also lead efforts to promote responsible sourcing practices and enhance our social responsibility initiatives. This role requires a strong commitment to ethical business conduct and a passion for creating a positive impact on society and the environment. Strong knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively is preferred.  

What you’ll be doing:

  • Regulatory Responsibilities: 
  • Participate in all standards and regulations meetings of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and/or any other relevant institution. 
  • Track changes in regulations and voluntary standards and assess impact to MDB’s business. 
  • Ensure stakeholders are kept up to date regarding changes in regulation impacting our products. 
  • Maintain product compliance tracking & documentation (e.g., testing reports, product certificates, registrations).  
  • Own relations with independent 3rd party testing labs 
  • Monitor and prepare testing/certification annual budget. 
  • Resolve companies concerns about legal compliance and requirements applicable to MDB product assortment. 
  • Responsible Sourcing & Social Responsibilities: 
  • Conduct research and outline compliance documentation needed for retailer programs such as direct import programs, certifications, or new retailers onboarding. 
  • Establish policies that align with retailers’ social responsibility requirements for factories. 
  • Coordinate social responsibility annual audits (e.g., SMETA, BSCI, SCAN) with factories, 3rd party labs, and certification entities. 
  • Responsible for assessing factories audit results and drive improvement efforts. 
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify company vulnerabilities caused by specific product hazards or factory practices. 
  • Provide detailed action plan to ensure continuous improvement. 
  • Serve as a liaison between MDB and factories to ensure new policies, changes to retailer requirements, and strategy is properly and timely communicated. 
  • Facilitate training for responsible sourcing practices, product compliance and internal sustainability efforts for MDB internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Conduct biannual reviews to ensure application of company procedures and practices, and documents to identify possible weaknesses or risks. 
  • Maintain strict documentation and controls for supply chain visibility. 
  • Manage certifications renewals including documentation submission, audits, and interfacing with organizations… (e.g., Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Greenguard Gold (GGG) 
  • Contribute to drive MDB environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) efforts and help bring them to life. 
  • What you bring to the table:

  • 2-4 years of experience working with regulatory agencies (e.g., ASTM, JPMA, Health Canada, BIFMA, CPSC, etc.) and certified 3rd party laboratories. 
  • Understanding of regulations and industry standards. 
  • Passion for ethical business practices and sustainability. 
  • Experience in compliance management, responsible sourcing, or social responsibility 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and with external partners
