Purpose of Position
This posting will be used to conduct ongoing recruitment and remain open until position has been filled.
Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operation of the Drug Screening and Drug Confirmation section. This position will prepare Discovery Orders, assist in responding to subpoena duces tecum requests, and provide expert testimony in court proceedings as well as develop and validate new testing procedures and implement new analytical technologies [e.g. Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS, Orbitrap, and Gas Chromatography GC-MS, ELISA)] for the Toxicology Bureau.
How does it get done?
Oversees the Toxicology Bureau activities including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training documentation, Quality Assurance, directs laboratory personnel to establish new testing method, proficiency testing, method development and improvement.

Plans and advocates to the Director of SLD for the acquisition, maintenance and development of qualified human and material resources assuring the quality of scientific work and successful completion of the mission; stays current of scientific advances in the field and prepare grant applications. Attends professional meetings and trainings as operations and funding allows. Provides expert testimony for court proceedings, discovery orders and responds to subpoena duces tecum requests.

Citizens of New Mexico, law enforcement agencies, attorneys, highway safety personnel, Department of Health, Scientific Laboratory Division
Ideal Candidate
PhD in Biochemistry, Toxicology, Chemistry, Forensic Science or Biology from an accredited college or university and seven (7) years of supervisory experience within a laboratory setting to include quality control and quality assurance and at least one (1) years of supervisory experience is within an American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT) or American Association of Crime Lab Directors Accreditation Board (ASCLD-LAB) accredited toxicology laboratory.

Preference: Method development and validation experience
Preference: Experience working with analysis of bodily fluids
Preference: Clinical laboratory experience
Minimum Qualification
PhD in Biochemistry, Toxicology, Chemistry, Forensic Science or Biology from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience in a laboratory setting or Masters in Biochemistry, Toxicology, Chemistry, Forensic Science or Biology from an accredited college or university and seven (7) years of experience in a laboratory setting.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.  Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate.  In state and out of state travel may be required.  Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is required.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a fully functional laboratory containing biological, chemical, physical, and radiological hazards. Incumbent will be required to use all applicable safety equipment provided by the employer and follow all safety precautions specified by the employer. There will be extended standing, repetitive trunk/arm/hand/neck movements with computer usage or assay/methodologies utilized. Work involves using high voltage electronic instrumentation, and high pressure gas cylinders. Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs.
