Tennant’s Global Product Regulatory Affairs team is looking for a Sr. Product Regulatory Compliance Specialist to develop and drive company-wide global product compliance programs and initiatives.  

 

Major responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and coordinate compliance with federal, state, local and international regulatory requirements

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the vision, long-term strategies and annual plan objectives for the Product Regulatory Compliance team.

  • Track, monitor, interpret and analyze new & existing product laws and regulations that impact a global manufacturing and sales enterprise

  • Develop and drive effective methods to respond to the various relevant compliance regulations, striving for global cross-functional alignment, and achieving key goals defined by annual plan objectives.

  • Represent Tennant on national and international industry associations and standards technical committees as well as North American industry committees and on international standards committees to track new requirements and drive industry changes.

  • Provide regulatory compliance awareness, education and guidance to the various Tennant regulatory compliance stakeholders on how to interpret, understand and comply with the regulations.

Major Areas of Accountabilty

  • Provide training and support to the product marketing and engineering development groups to enable product compliance with all relevant regulations, such as machine safety (Machinery Directive, EMC), RoHS, REACH, WEEE, engine emissions, dust emissions, ECO labeling, Conflict Minerals, and Supply Chain Transparency.

  • Actively participate as Tennant’s representative on various industry groups and standards committees for cleaning equipment or related industries. to create and influence regulatory and/or safety-related standards directly applicable to Tennant’s interests, such as:

    • International Electro-technical Committee (IEC)

    • American Association of Cleaning Equipment manufactures (AACEM)

    • Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI)

  • Administer the Product Risk Assessment process within Tennant’s Product Safety Counsel (PSC), and keep current all infrastructure used by the product development groups to ensure approval by the PSC.   Additionally, offer this methodology to Minneapolis based teams when risk assessments are required (custom specials, service, and manufacturing).

  • Support Tennant’s business units to ensure that products meet compliance requirements throughout the product lifecycle, avoiding stop-sale exposures and non-compliance penalties in the markets we serve.

  • Respond to external customer or other requests related to Tennant’s product regulatory compliance status on specific issues or matters, mainly in support of Product Management, Customer Service, and Strategic Accounts.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key authorized test agencies and other organizations such as Intertek, UL, CSA, etc.

  • Maintain the global Product Regulatory Affairs Access database by identifying, seeking interpretation of, and evaluating proposed, new and amended product, product-related, and safety laws, rules, regulations, and standards that impact the business, its subsidiaries and supply-chain partners. 

  • Conduct product regulatory compliance audits of internal business units and external supply-chain partners.

  • Ensure that regulatory requirements are considered and incorporated as necessary into new product design processes, development programs and trade practices.

  • Prepare and submit applications and other required filings with governmental or regulatory agencies or bodies, as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Expectations 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management and/or administration, engineering, regulatory compliance, environmental studies, or related field, or JD from an accredited law school.

  • 3+ years’ experience in a product-based environment in regulatory affairs, product compliance & approvals or related areas such as corporate risk & compliance, quality assurance or research & development

  • Experience in proactive, global product regulatory compliance, standards development, product safety & risk management, engineering design or product management or auditing in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the surface cleaning equipment or off-road heavy equipment industries.

  • Versed in regulatory compliance analysis and application regarding engine emissions, product content for hazardous substances, supply-chain transparency, EMC, vibrations, radio frequency, agency compliance (UL, CE, PSE, etc.), noise, vibration, product safety, etc.

  • Technical and practical knowledge of international regulatory systems and processes, as well as standards committees and their associated function and activities.  Experience with product safety compliance testing is a plus.

  • Ability to investigate and define strategies to ensure cost-effective, efficient, low-risk project execution

  • Travel may be required, domestic and international

  • Knowledge building including comprehending complex issues quickly, ability to do effective research & succinct analysis, and an inquisitive mind to go below the surface of product and regulatory requirements

  • Global Business & Manufacturing savvy along with a passion for training and education for internal and external stakeholders
