An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Crime Scene Investigator (Tier 2) to join our Forensic Investigation Unit, based in Loddon Valley.
To meet the challenges of modern policing, successful individuals will be dynamic and flexible, with an ability to make complex decisions in a variety of scenarios in order to deliver effective front line forensic services. You will be required to support and develop less experienced team members; take responsibility at scenes for managing resources and crime scene examination activities; engage with appropriate stakeholders to maximise forensic outcomes; provide specialist advice with the ability to present findings in a clear and concise manner. Crime Scene Investigators must demonstrate personal resilience, excellent organisation, and be willing to adapt to the variety of challenges and changes that this opportunity offers. Balancing the demands of technical competence and the tutoring of staff will all form part of the Crime Scene Investigator role. Knowledge and implementation of ISO 17020 will be required to underpin scene examinations and outcomes. At times you will be required to attend unpleasant scenes and deal with distressing events.
Successful applicants will have the knowledge and skills to understand, assess, photograph, examine, recover and interpret information and forensic evidence within all types of crime scenes as a competent practitioner. In addition to physical forensics, post holders will be required to undertake digital forensic examinations, including the triage of digital devices containing images of an unpleasant and distressing nature. Accurate note taking and record keeping are essential.
You will need recent and proven experience of working within Crime Scene Investigation and will have completed the CSI Stage 1 and 2 Courses or a recognised equivalent, with evidence of competence in this field. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to handle stressful situations and prioritising tasks according to risk are essential.
Capability to travel across the Force is required in order to undertake your initial in house training and future assignments in a timely manner and work flexibly. Due to unsocial hours and personal safety for lone working public transport may not be suitable. For this reason a full driving licence is considered essential for this role.
All applicants will be expected to undertake the established psychological screening process. Along with all other posts in Force Crime, Intelligence and Specialist Operations Departments, this role will require an enhanced level of vetting.
