Accountant/Auditor 4

Under limited supervision, at the advanced level, these positions perform accounting/auditing duties in one or more of the following areas: general accounting, internal auditing, external auditing, budget/administration, financial analysis and statutory accounting. These positions may be responsible for preparing highly complex expense, revenue, and reconciliation reports, planning, assigning, and reviewing agency audits and handling more sensitive accounting/auditing matters. Responsibilities may also include supervising Accounting Technicians and other office support staff in the preparation of financial reports and the maintenance of proprietary ledgers, budgetary control ledgers, profit and loss statements and other comparable reports, and training lower-level accountants/auditors. Some positions may involve conducting complex financial audits related to the investigation and/or prosecution of insurance fraud (forensic accounting). Statewide travel may be required. Non-standard work hours are required for forensic accountant/auditor positions. Perform related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

These positions function at the advanced level and work is specialized in nature relative to lower levels in the class series. Forensic accountant/auditor positions in the Offices of the Insurance Commissioner and the Public Employees Insurance Agency function at this level.
